Site Positions & Descriptions

Site Staff

HEX Site Staff consists of four different levels who help keep the site running smoothly, as well as leading the efforts to bring fresh and exciting content to its users. Each level of Site Staff comprises volunteers who have shown passion and commitment towards the site and within their areas.

Although their specific duties may differ, all members of Site Staff help to moderate the site as a whole, ensuring Site Terms are being followed and discussing appropriate action to take when terms are broken, such as handling forum reports. Additionally, though there is a hierarchy within Site Staff, all members' opinions, experiences, and values carry equal weight. All levels of Site Staff help to keep one another accountable.

We understand that it can be a little difficult to understand who does what, so let's break it down:

ADMINISTRATORS

Administrators, or Admins, help keep all areas of the site on the same page. They have final say over all of the major decisions for the site and help to initiate discussions about new programs, ideas, or events that affect the site as a whole. They also oversee and work with Staff Members to ensure each department is run smoothly.

STAFF MEMBERS

Staff Members lead teams of Junior Staff Members, Global Moderators, and Forum Moderators in various departments. They work with Administrators to ensure their departments are running smoothly and also weigh in on decisions concerning the site as a whole. Though Staff Members usually lead the areas they are in, they are able to be in departments without serving in a Staff role. In this case, they may function as a Global Moderator for the area or another role.

JUNIOR STAFF MEMBERS

The Junior Staff role is somewhat between Staff Member and Global Moderator. Each Junior Staff Member has one focus area where they take on additional duties as they help to support Staff Member(s) in the area and keep things moving as a leader. In their other areas and in moderating the site as a whole, they function the same as a Global Moderator.

GLOBAL MODERATORS

Global Moderators, also referred to as GMods, work with Staff Members in their assigned areas, as well as Junior Staff Members, if present. Global Moderators make up the largest section of Site Staff and help to moderate the public forums of HEX and often spend their time helping multiple areas of HEX to create new content and user experiences. Though Global Moderators often take on additional responsibilities in their departments, such as overseer roles, this is not always the case in all areas. When there is no specific GMod role in a department, they often take on the same essential duties as Forum Moderators but help to provide their expertise and guidance when needed.

Moderators & Other Site Positions

FORUM MODERATORS

Forum Moderators report to the Global Moderators, Junior Staff Members, and Staff Members in their assigned areas of focus. These users create new contests and activities in their area alongside the Global Moderator team. They are often the first point of contact for users with questions or issues within a specific forum. Moderators are also in charge of helping to keep an eye on any forums within their departments to ensure Site Terms and their forum's rules are being followed and answering user questions or concerns that are posted within those forums.

OTHER SITE POSITIONS

Several types of specialized positions are also held by users. While these roles may overlap somewhat with what Forum Moderators do, usually they encompass entirely different types of duties that are often unique to their specific department. Departments may add or remove these positions based on need.

Teaching Assistants
